Information: | NELSON JOHNSON, FRI. APRIL. 16, 2004 7:00 p.m.at Jonah House On Nov. 3, 1979, demonstrators marched to protest Ku Klux Klan activity in the rural North Carolina. Klansmen and American Nazis, arriving on the scene at the moment the police took their lunch break, shot 13 people. Five died. Others were permanently injured. Nelson Johnson was repeatedly stabbed and beaten. Nelson was at the forefront of a 1995 effort by unions and clergy to address the issues of workers at a Greensboro Kmart distribution center. He organized a Truth and Reconciliation Commission in Greensboro and established the “Beloved Community” which continues to serve the people of Greensboro. Reverend Johnson is an inspired and impassioned preacher. Nelson will speak at Jonah House as part of the Clarification of Thought Series organized by Jonah House and Viva House Catholic Worker.
