Maryland Green Party
Green Party of the U.S.

About Us

As a ballot-qualified political party, the Green Party uses all non-violent means to work toward our Ten Key Values, including direct action, community organizing and education, personal empowerment, issue-oriented campaigns, ballot initiatives and electoral campaigns. The Green Party works in accordance with its Ten Key Values and refuses all contributions from corporations, unions, and political action committees (PACs).

Green Party candidates have a long history of success in Baltimore. The Green Party has won 49,320 votes in City Council elections since its first campaign in 2004. In the 2007 City Council elections, the Green Party won more votes than the Republican Party.

The Baltimore City Green Party is the recognized Baltimore City chapter of the Maryland Green Party, which is an accredited state affiliate of the Green Party of the United States.

The Green Party of the United States is a federation of state Green Parties. Committed to environmentalism, non-violence, social justice and grassroots organizing, Greens are renewing democracy without the support of corporate donors. Greens provide real solutions for real problems. Whether the issue is universal health care, corporate globalization, alternative energy, election reform or decent, living wages for workers, Greens have the courage and independence necessary to take on the powerful corporate interests. The Federal Elections Commission recognizes the Green Party of the United States as the official Green Party National Committee.

The Green Party decision making body is the National Committee, composed of delegates from each accredited state party. State NC representatives and other committee participants are chosen by each state party.

The Green Party of the United States was formed in 2001 as a reincarnation of the older Association of State Green Parties (1996-2001). Its initial goal was to help state parties grow and to promote the formation of parties in all 50 states and Washington, DC.

As the Green Party National Committee devotes its attention to establishing a national Green presence in politics and policy debate while continuing to facilitate party growth and action at the state and local level.

Green Party growth has been rapid since its founding in 2001 and Green candidates are winning elections throughout the U.S. In 2004, the Green Party nominated David Cobb and Pat LaMarche for the Green Presidential ticket. In 2008 the Green Party nominated former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney and Rosa Clemente. (from www.gp.org)
